San Sebastian is a magical town that proudly forms part of the national heritage and was founded at the beginning of 1605 AD, mainly formed by old haciendas and centuries-old houses that have seen the passing of the years as silent witnesses of their history, like the abandoned mines and the fields that surround it, becoming the valuable legacy of tradition and history that it is today.

At the end of the 1700’s, about 10 Haciendas were known with gold and silver reducing factories and about 30 mines in the area. This beautiful town became a city in the early 1800’s and reached its peak in the middle of the same century.

The mines stopped working during the revolution of 1910 and foreign companies moved to other places, when the last mine stopped working in 1921 and the town went into oblivion for many years, since at the beginning of the 20th century the mines were exhausted and the city lost its precious metal shine and the city seems to have entered into a “time tunnel”, which now makes it one of its main attractions.

In its glorious past it was an extremely prosperous silver and gold mining town and at its height it had four times the current population of around 6,000 inhabitants.

On the outskirts of the village you can visit some old haciendas. Some of them are now in ruins, while others are meticulously restored to their former splendor as the well known “Hacienda La Quinta”, which continues proudly producing its delicious organic coffee, which is also one of its most exquisite attractions.

San Sebastián is also surrounded by ancestral trees such as pines, oaks and some fruit trees that are also sheltered by the whitish fog that slowly fades as the sun’s rays glide slowly between its branches and illuminate the houses covered with their tile roofs and what remains of the old haciendas that gave life in certain point in its history to this magical and emblematic place in the Western Sierra Madre.

Let us take you to travel through this tunnel of time and go back to the greatness that hides this beautiful place between the cracks of its aging walls and its wooden doors carved by craftsmen more than 3 centuries old. Surely you will live one of the most fascinating stories of your life!
